Five killed, 5 injured in suspected terrorist attack in Elwak, Mandera county

At least five people have been killed and five others badly injured after an donkey cart laden with  improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated at the centre of Elwak town, Mandera county today morning in a suspected terrorist attack.

There was also heavy gunfire at the affected residential premise which houses non-locals working in the area including teachers, nurses and police officers, according to eyewitnesses.

The premise is located opposite the Elwak Administration Police (AP) camp.

First responders said five people, comprising a local and four non-locals, were among those severely injured in the mid-morning incident.
