Four suspected Shabaab killed in Lamu

Kenyan soldiers on Thursday killed four suspected Al-Shabaab fighters and captured one after a bus attack in Lamu County.

Coast Regional Coordinator John Elungata gave this report just hours after the ambush in Nyongoro.

The travellers had been heading from Mombasa to Lamu when the incident took place, Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia said earlier.

Following the attack, transport on Lamu-Garsen Road was suspended and security agents deployed to search for the assailants.

The Somalia-based terror group has ramped up attacks in recent months, its deadliest being a car bombing in Mogadishu, Somalia, on Saturday, that left 78 dead.

Al-Shabaab, for the first time, apologised for killing civilians in the attack.
