Sabina Chege ignites vote rigging debate

Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Chege has ignited new controversy in the country’s succession politics by claiming that vote-rigging is possible in elections.

Speaking yesterday in Western with other Azimio La Umoa-leaning MPs, she admitted that there was election rigging in 2017 saying that the same will be repeated in the August polls.

“I have heard people saying we rigged 2017 votes, there is some truth in it. But if we managed to rig votes then, even this one we can. They think they are the smartest. (Mnajua kule central nime skia wengine wakisema tuliwaibia, kuna ka ukweli kidogo kama tulijua kuiba si hata hii tuta fanya nini…wanajiona werevu sana.)” she said.

The remarks have gone viral on social media, with leaders and supporters of Deputy President William Ruto challenging her to back up her claims.

Sabina was responding to Ruto after he alleged that there was a plan to rig him in the upcoming general election.

Last month, the Ruto claimed that the ”deep state” had hatched a plan to rig the presidential vote.

He stated that he would scuttle such plans adding that nobody would steal his votes.

“Does it look like my votes can be stolen? I am the deputy president of Kenya. Is there a deep state or a system that exists without my knowledge? I will surprise them. The electorate will decide and one the votes have been cast, that is final. No one will interfere with my results,” Ruto stated.
