Ministry of Education release revised 2023 school calendar

The Ministry of Education has released the revised 2023 school calendar for primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.

Through a notice, Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang indicated that the first term which started on Monday will run for 13 weeks until the closing date on April 21.

Learners will then break for half term on March 16th, 2023 for 3 days to resume on March 19, 2023, followed by a two weeks’ holiday starting April 22 to May 7.

The second term will run for 14 weeks starting from May 8 to August 11. Half term will start from June 29 to July 2.

After the second term, schools will close from August 12 up to August 27.

Third term will run from August 28 to October 27, the shortest with only 9 weeks. No half term in third term.

Afterwards, a 10 weeks’ holiday will follow from October 28 to January 8, 2024.

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will take four days starting October 30th to the 2nd of November, while Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will run for three weeks starting November 3rd to November 24th.

KCSE marking will then commence on November 27 until December 15.

On the other hand, teachers training colleges for continuing 2022 and 2023 students whose second term started on Monday Jan 23 will run for 13 weeks until April 21.

Their term three will commence on May 8 until August 11 and have a three weeks’ holiday from August 12.
