Deputy President William Ruto will today take his bottom-up economic agenda campaigns to Machakos County.
The DP will embark on a tour by holding a rally at Donyo Sabuk morning hours, after which he will proceed to Tala market in Matungulu sub-county.
Ruto will head to Kangundo where he will engage the residents at noon before holding stopovers at Kivaani and Kakuyuni at 1pm and 2pm respectively.
He is also expected to visit Kathiani at 3pm, Mitaboni at 4pm before wrapping up his itinerary in Joska along Kangundo road at 5pm.
Ruto will be touring Governor Alfred Mutua’s backyard who is also seeking to be 5th president in the August general elections.
Mutua has taken his campaign pledges a notch higher, promising that his government will give newly married couples between Sh500,000 to Sh1 million loans to build new homes, if elected president in August elections.
Mutua, while launching his manifesto late last year noted he is focused on the plight of the youth in the country, the Machakos Governor said the move is aimed at improving the quality of homes in the country.
“Newlyweds will receive an initial capital of Sh500,000 – Sh1,000,000 in kind, payable over 20 years at an interest rate of 0.5 per cent as a gift to invest in their new home and entrench the family institution,” Mutua said.
Shelving his ambitions, the Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party leader said he will support the Azimio la Umoja Initiative led by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga in its quest to work with like-minded parties.
“As a party, we are going to support Azimio la Umoja because it is bringing Kenyans together regardless of their tribe or political affiliation. We can work under that movement as a political party in whatever coalition that will come forth as we focus on forming the next government in 2022,” said Mutua.
He urged Odinga to shelve his ambition should he intend to vie insisting that it was an opportune time for the youth to lead this country.
“But if by any chance I am not running because you never know the future, know that I will vote for Odinga because I believe in him,” he added.
