Deputy President William Ruto has slammed Mount Kenya Foundation’s (MKF) endorsement of Raila Odinga as their preferred candidate during his campaign rally in Makueni County.
While campaigning campaigning in Makueni County, Ruto labelled Raila’s endorsement as futile.
“It is futile to cut political deals in hotels. Those deals are not representative of the interests of Kenyans,” he said.
After months of speculation on who their preferred candidate for the 2022 presidential election will be, the MKF endorsed the candidacy of Raila for the 2022 presidential elections.
MKF members who hail from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s central region stated that the quest for unity in the country was part of Kenyatta’s agenda hence their decision to back Odinga’s quest.
MKF Chairperson Peter Munga stated that their leader had given them the go ahead to rally behind Raila.
“If he had not given us the blessing to go for Azimio la Umoja we would not have been here,he is our ‘Muthamaki’(leader),” said Munga.
MKF Vice Chairperson Titus Ibui pointed out that they will escort Raila for his big day where he is expected to launch his presidential bid.
“We will convene at Safari Park Hotel with the leaders from the UPYA movement and escort Odinga to Kasarani stadium,” Ibui stated.
Drumming up support for his United Democratic Alliance (UDA), his Hustler’s movement and bottom-up economic model, Ruto vowed to return the country to the path of eceonomic recovery if he becomes the fifth president.
Ruto said the March 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila hindered delivery of key services under the Big 4 Agenda.
“Our first priority next year will be investing Sh100 billion in agro-processing, value addition, manufacturing and housing so that we can create jobs, because it was our priority under the Big Four plan,” he said.
