Rose Njeri released on Sh100,000 bond after being arraigned over cybercrime charges
She appeared relieved after the ruling as she shook hands with several lawyers who were in court to represent her or observe the case

Software developer Rose Njeri has been released on a Ksh 100,000 after being charged in a Milimani court under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act for allegedly spamming Parliament’s email system.
Njeri was arrested last Friday in connection with a website she developed that allowed Kenyans to give feedback on the Finance Bill 2024. She spent four nights in custody sparking protests from human rights activists, her family and lawyers.
She appeared relieved after the ruling as she shook hands with several lawyers who were in court to represent her or observe the case.
They included former Chief Justice David Maraga, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-Kenya’s Eugene Wamalwa.
According to the charge sheet the offence occurred on May 19. It states that she “knowingly created a programme hosted at https://civic-email.vercel.app/ that automatically generated and sent mass emails to [email protected], which is the official system of the finance committee, thereby interfering with the normal functioning of the systems.”
Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo set June 20 as the hearing date.
