Raymond Moi castigate UDA for campaigning during elections

Rongai Member of Parliament (MP) Raymond Moi has criticised United Democratic Alliance (UDA) for campaigning as elections were underway in Nakuru county.

Speaking at the Mercy Njeri Primary School after casting his vote, Moi questioned whether IEBC permitted elected officials to act as agents.

“We had agreed that no elected leaders would act as agents but now I can see UDA leaders have been issued IEBC badges and they can access polling stations and centres at will,” he said.

An uproar ensued at the Kiamunyi Secondary School polling place as David Gikaria, the newly elected MP for Nakuru Town East, was expelled by irate voters.

The UDA party MP was reportedly not wanted at the polling place out of concern that he might tamper with the voting.

The MP was detained during the general elections on August 9 for reportedly inciting mayhem at two polling places in his district.

In one episode, he got into a physical altercation with a Members of County Assemblies (MCA) candidate and then drove about with young people in two vans, interfering with polling at Naka Primary School.

Gikaria went to the Mercy Njeri Primary School polling place on Monday and set up camp there for three hours starting at 6 am when the polls opened.

Later, he attempted to enrol at Kiamunyi Secondary School, but was turned away by officials and voters.

The 197 voting places in Rongai will have election monitoring by elected governors and MPs thanks to UDA.
