Azimio One Kenya Coalition presidential hopeful Raila Odinga today, joined faithful at All Saint’s Cathedral Church in Nairobi for prayers ahead of his date with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The ODM leader was expected to present his credentials for clearance for the State House race as he seeks to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta
Odinga was accompanied by his running Martha Karua, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth and a host of Azimio-leading leaders.
Others in the former premier’s entourage included Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, who is eyeing the county’s governor seat, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth and Raila’s spokesperson Makau Mutua.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader is expected to present his nomination papers to the electoral body for vetting at Bomas today.
Raila will thereafter head to Nakuru County where he is expected to address several roadside rallies before holding a major campaign at Mazembe Grounds.
On Monday, the Azimio One Kenya Coalition presidential flag bearer will unveil his manifesto at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Raila’s clearance to vie in the August polls comes a day after his political nemesis Deputy President William Ruto of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party was cleared to vie for the upcoming August polls.
The Kenya Kwanza coalition leader received his clearance certificate yesterday and was cleared after fulfilling all the requirements set out by the constitution and the electoral body.
Ruto and Raila are touted as front-runners in the highly-charged race with the latter having the blessings of President Uhuru who has been accused of managing his own succession.
Odinga is the fifth presidential candidate to be cleared by the commission.
Other presidential candidates cleared so far are Roots party leader George Wajackoyah, David Mwaura Waihiga of Agano party, and Walter Mong’are of Umoja Summit party.
