Rabai Member of Parliament William Kamoti has died in a road accident.
Confirming the incident, Kilifi North police boss Jonathan Koech said that the accident occurred at Komaza black spot on the Kilifi-Mombasa Highway on Sunday evening.
Kamoti perished in a road accident shortly after he presented his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The legislator died on the spot after a Toyota Prado the MP was travelling on lost control and rolled several times.
Orange Democratic Party (ODM) confirmed Kamoti’s death via a tweet on social media.
The party said the Rabai MP was from presenting his nomination papers to the IEBC when he was involved in the accident.
“It’s with shock and sadness that we as the ODM party have received the news of the untimely death of our MP for Rabai, Hon. William Kamoti, shortly after presenting his nomination papers to IEBC Kenya. We stand with the people of Rabai. Rest in Peace Hon. Kamoti,” ODM tweeted.
According to one eyewitness, the Prado’s rear wheel came off causing the vehicle ferrying the Rabai MP to lose control and roll several times.
Videos circulating on social media show an emergency medical technician trying to resuscitate the MP who lay motionless at the scene of the accident.
The victim’s body was taken to the mortuary at Kilifi Referral Hospital.
