A sand harvesting mission for a father of three ended on a sour note after a quarry he was working in collapsed killing him in Moi Ndabi area of Naivasha.
The body of the man in his late 30s was discovered by his family members after a two day search in the semi-arid village which is 40kms from Naivasha town.
Some tools that he was using led members of the public to a quarry where he had been working and after five hours of excavation his lifeless body was discovered.
According to one of the area residents Jacob Kimani, the man left his home on Saturday morning but failed to return in the evening and the following day.
He added that the family got concerned as he failed to return for the second day and called for support from area residents.
“We launched a major search and on checking near the quarry we found his sweater, a spade and a jembe,” said Kimani.
He added that on excavating the quarry, they found the body before calling in the police who later transferred it to Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary.
A senior police officer confirmed the death adding that an inquest file had been opened up as part of their investigations.
Meanwhile, over 60 passengers escaped death narrowly after a bus and a Nissan matatu they were travelling in were involved in an accident near Mai Mahiu town on Sunday morning.
