PSV operators to resume night travel after green light

The government has announced the resumption of night travel in the country after the lifting of the nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew.

In a statement, Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said that Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators are free to resume the services.

However, he noted that all Covid-19 protocols outlined by the Ministry of Health should be followed while on board.

“We are encouraging members of the transport fraternity to embrace Covid-19 vaccination in line with the sector,” he said.

He mantained that physical distancing, wearing of masks and use of sanitisers will remain in place.

Macharia noted that this would complement the governments efforts to get its citizenry vaccinated and fast track economic recovery.

President Uhuru Kenyatta announced the lift the dawn to dusk curfew hours which have been in place since March 27, 2020.

“It is, however, important for all of us to appreciate that we are not yet out of the woods. We must, therefore, continue to observe the containment measures as directed by the Ministry of Health, as this is the only way to sustain the gains we are making and a guarantee to the full re-opening of the economy,” said the President.

According to him, the move to lift the curfew followed a review of the containment measures by the National Emergency Response Committee and the National Security Council.
