Gospel artist and presidential hopeful Reuben Kigame is appealing for enactment of laws to make it mandatory for braille and sign language in all communication platforms.
He said most government documents should be translated into braille for the sake of the visually impaired and sign language to help the deaf comprehend public statements or speeches.
Kigame spoke when he visited Thika High School for the Blind in Kiambu County where he made an address to students and donated musical instruments.
The celebrated gospel musician and former student at the special learning institution for the visually impaired, called for inclusivity saying disability should not an excuse for discrimination.
“I am challenging banks to translate forms for all transaction papers into braille. I am also challenging the government to make official documents available in braille,” said Kigame.
At the same time, he declared he will be running for the presidency in 2027, independent of the existing political formations.
“I will not be aligning myself with UDA, that is the worst government we have ever had. I also can’t join those in the so-called opposition because they have been in government before. I will go it alone,” maintained Kigame.
Emphasizing his determination to become Kenya’s 6th President, he said disability or lack of it should not be used as a measure for good leadership.
“If eyesight could save a nation, then all the presidents since independence could have solve your problems because they could see. I don’t think it’s about eyesight, it’s all about wisdom and vision,” Kigame reasoned.
In 2022, Kigame unsuccessfully contested the presidential seat as an independent candidate in an election won by President William Ruto riding on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party under the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
