President Uhuru Kenyatta will go ahead with his Ukambani region tour but in a scaled down inspection of identified project due to Covid-19.
In a statement by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena, the President will be accompanied by all local leaders and dates will be notified later.
The meeting also observed that in light of new variants of Covid-19 which are deadlier and more communicable, a number of Kenya’s regional neighbours had introduced heightened containment measures.
Further, the meeting resolved to scale down the planned presidential visit to the region in view of the foregoing and cognisance of the directives issued as part of Public Order No. 4 of 2021 on Covid-19 barring ‘super[1]spreader’ events being held within Kenya for the reason that they imperil the public health and exacerbate the Covid-19 situation in our country.
In that regard, she says the meeting reiterated that full fidelity with that prohibition is of utmost public interest and is an integral pillar of Kenya’s Covid-19 containment strategy.
She noted that the presidential engagement will be conducted in full fidelity with the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.
Kenyatta had cancelled his planned two-day tour of Ukambani region on Monday owing to the upsurge of the Covid-19 infection.
The President was set to visit projects in Machakos and Makueni counties on June 28 and then head to Kitui County on June 29.
In Machakos, Kenyatta was to visit Konza Technopolis before proceeding to inspect the Thwake Dam project and later launch Kibwezi-Kitui road.
