President Uhuru Kenyatta has defended his corruption clean-up stating that many have termed him a president who has militarized the country.
The President says that he was saving the country from the claws of greedy leaders who would go to all lengths to grab government property.
“The devil of corruption is still alive and well in Kenya,” said the President.
The president, who was expected to hold his last Madaraka day celebrations at Kirigiti stadium, defended his choice of Uhuru Gardens saying that the Military has helped reclaim the land and rehabilitate it into the beautiful arena that now has a capacity of 30,000 people.
“This park (Uhuru Gardens) had become a den of thieves… part of it was in the hands of unscrupulous individuals. We have reclaimed it,” said Kenyatta.
Kenyatta yesterday evening officially commissioned the Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum before the Madaraka Day national celebrations saying that it was the heritage of Kenyans and needed to be preserved.
“Part of the Wilson Airport runway had a title deed registered in the name of a private individual. Reforms in the land registry has led to the stamping out of fake title deeds and accelerated the process of reversing this fraud,” said Kenyatta.
The Informer has learnt that in 2018, the president indulged the Military in helping repossess the land where Uhuru Gardens sit from a private developer.
It is alleged that the land premises was used as a local pub owned by the area Member of Parliament and another private developer.
