President Ruto pledge to reduce cost of cooking gas from Sh2,800 to Sh500 by June

President William Ruto has disclosed that the government has initiated plans to lower the cost of the 6kg cooking gas cylinders from 2,800 to Sh500 by June 2023.

He was speaking during the re-launch of the Women Enterprise Fund and Second Product of the Hustler Fund at KICC.

He pledged that his government will also remove 8 percent tax levied on the commodity in order to make it more affordable.

“We will allocate money that will enable us to reduce cooking gas prices, we will do away with taxes and enable our women to cook without thinking about their health,” he said.

The Head of State noted that 70 percent of women use firewood top cook which risks health complications.

The revelation comes days after he launched the Sh16.5billion Taifa Gas Project in Dongo Kundu, Mombasa county.

He said that the government is keen on increasing the per capita consumption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) at the household level.
