President Ruto attends 36th AU Summit in Ethiopia

President William Ruto has jetted to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the 36th Ordinary Session of the African Union Heads of State and Government Summit.

The three-day summit aimed at fast-tracking Intra-Trade in Africa will take place between 17-19 February, 2023.

The leaders will deliberate on key issues aimed at accelerating Intra-Trade in Africa under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.

Through a statement, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed

“As a champion for climate action, President Ruto will advocate for Africa’s potential to lead the world and demonstrate that the continent can industrialize, thrive, and prosper – in a low carbon and sustainable manner,” he said.

“The President will be setting the course for a safer and cleaner future which will be powered by renewable energy.”

In his capacity as the Chair and Coordinator of Committee of the African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), President Ruto will moderate a meeting to review the outcomes and implications of last year’s COP27 for Africa.

At the same time he will also chart the way forward for the key global events setting the milestones for climate action and reform of the international financial architecture in 2023.
