Police seize counterfeit goods in Kiambu county, one suspect arrested

Police in Kiambu county are holding a suspect allegedly involved in the business of counterfeit goods.

According to the police, detectives together with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers seized the counterfeit goods from a dwelling house situated at Magomano area within Githunguri Township.

“Among those recovered were 11 cartons of supermatch of 10,000 pieces each affixed with counterfeit KRA stamps, 3 cartons of supermatch of 5,000 pieces each affixed counterfeit KRA stamps and 34 bundles of supermatch of 20 pieces each affixed with counterfeit KRA stamps,” the police stated.

The police also recovered 75 bundles of supermatch of 20 pieces each branded for export, 320 bundles of counterfeit KRA cigarette stickers of 400 pieces each, 5 bundles of Pall Mall Safari cigarettes of 400 pieces each, 14 bundles of Ralli cigarettes wrappers of 400 pieces each.

Also recovered were 18 bundles of supermatch wrappers of 400 pieces each and 1000 pieces of supermatch QR codes among others.

This follows a similar sting operation in the same county after police arrested one suspect and seized counterfeit alcohol worth Sh300,000 at Breeze Park Estate along Kenyatta road.

Detectives also recovered three drums of ethanol and 193 cartons of packed alcoholic products.

Empty cartons and fake Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and KRA stickers were also recovered.
