Police probe death of LGBTQ activist, fashion designer Edwin Chiloba
Police in Uasin Gishu have commenced investigations into the death of popular fashion designer and LGBTQ activist Edwin Chiloba who was murdered and his lifeless body stuffed in a metallic box.
According to eyewitnesses, a vehicle with a hidden registration number was spotted dropping the metallic box along the Kipenyo-Kaptinga road.
Police after arriving at the scene opened the box and found Chiloba’s decomposing body dressed in women’s clothing.
His body was taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, awaiting post-mortem to establish the cause of death.
LGBTQ activists across the country have called for justice as they mourn Chiloba’s death.
Human Rights lobbies have likewise condemned the murder and have called for speedy probe on the matter claiming that Chiloba’s killing was reprehensible and unjust.
In a statement, the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) decried a rise in the number of violent crimes targeting members of the queer community across the country.
“It is truly worrisome that we continue to witness escalation in violence targeting LGBTQ+ Kenyans. This is reprehensible and deeply unjust. Every day, the human rights of LGBTQ+ persons are being violated with little consequence for perpetrators. This is a frightening crime but it’s becoming common in Kenya – evidence of a growing epidemic of violence in the country,” KHRC stated.
