Police officer commits suicide after shooting two colleagues in Nyamira

An Administrative Police Officer shot two of his senior colleagues before shooting himself in Nyamira.

The officer is said to have approached his two seniors at the entrance of the administration police quarters where he deliberately fired shots on them.

Nyamira South sub-county Deputy Critical Infrastructure Police Units(CIPU) Commander, Bernard Too confirmed the incident which occurred on Tuesday evening.

According to the report, the two seniors were talking to the junior over the disagreement that arose due to the reorganisation of duty before he cocked the gun and started shooting.
“It is alleged that Constable Mdachi was dissatisfied with the impending redeployment and was bitter about it,” read part of the signal that was transmitted to Vigilance House, the Police Headquarters in Nairobi.
The two senior officers were identified as Seargent Amani Ali and Nicanor Odhiambo.

“While a heated argument on the matter ensued amongst the three officers, Mdachi who was armed with a loaded K47 rifle suddenly cocked it and started shooting at his seniors where Nicanor Odhiambo, 55 and Amani Ali, 49 were both shot on the thighs of their right legs and Mdachi directed the gun to his chin and shot himself down,” The deputy CIPU commander confirmed.

Ali died at the Nyamira County Hospital where he and Odhiambo had been rushed for emergency treatment following serious gunshot wounds they sustained.

Too said they recovered 4 used cartridges and an AK47 rifle from the crime scene which will be used as an exhibit when investigations surrounding the shooting incident will be launched.
