Police launch probe on death of Rangenyo Girls’ High School principal

Police are investigating the death of Lydia Onyoni, Rangenyo Girls’ High School Principal in Nyamira, whose lifeless body was found in her house.

According to preliminary report, she died at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after she was attacked by unknown people at her residence.

The head of Nyamira South School, Onkundi said that there were many contradicting reports on the cause of her death.

“We are yet to know what exactly happened. There are several contradicting reports, including one alleging that she suffered injuries after falling. She was staying alone,” Onkundi said.

A neighbor said she had visible injuries on her thighs and arms.

Job Oira, the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association chairperson in Nyamira county, said he last saw Onyoni last week on Friday during the burial of his father.

“On Sunday, I spoke with her on phone. She was okay,” said Oira.

She had been the principal of Rangenyo Girls’ for seven years and was credited for improving the school’s academic performance.

Nyamira County Police Commander Kimani Mitugo said that investigations into the cause of her death had been launched.
