Police launch probe into sexual assault claims at Ardhi House

Detectives have launched investigations into alleged sexual assault claims by several female employees at the Ministry of Lands offices in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
On the spot is a senior registrar, who is accused of sexual abuse and making unwanted sexual overtures toward junior female staff and interns. But despite reporting the matter to Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri, no action is said to have been taken.
It is on that premise that the Ministry was last week forced to cancel night shifts at the registry after Interns and female employees went on a go-slow to protest inaction from the top ministry to brass.
Muraguri declined to comment on the matter only stating that: “There is nothing I can say over whatever you are asking.”
The night shift, which was started to help clear backlog of files is now in disarray with officials warning it could delay issuance of land titles. A female employee who spoke to The Informer on condition of anonymity, said efforts to bring alleged suspect t to book has fallen on deaf ears.
“We have reasons to believe that this registrar is being protected by someone powerful either in the ministry of the government,” said the source.
Insiders at the Ministry say before his transfer to Nairobi, the accused official bundled out of the Kajiado County over allegations of sexual abuse and corruption. The human resources department at Ardhi House has also reportedly seized of the matter but has apparently failed to take action against the official.
On Friday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are said to have launched a probe after female staff took to social media to express their frustrations. Detectives have appealed to the victims to come forward and share information that will lead to the prosecution of the alleged suspect.
DCI boss George Kinoti though confirming the investigations, declined to divulge more details. “We shall give you people details once investigations are complete,”said Kinoti.
