Police upstage Brewers as K’Ogalo held away in league

Kenya Police FC notched a fourth consecutive win to move back to the apex of the Football Kenya Federation-Premier League standings following a 1-0 victory this afternoon over Mara Sugar FC away in a Round 18 fixture.
The law enforcers are now tied at the top of the table with 36 points alongside fellow contenders Tusker FC albeit with a stronger goal difference. The match played at Awendo Stadium was not as straight forward as the visitors had to be patient and calculative against a resolute opponent. Captain Clinton Kinanga scored the lone goal in the 56thminute; his second in as many matches for Etienne Ndayiragije’s side.
In another tie at Mumias Complex, defending Champions Gor Mahia FC inconsistency persisted as they went goalless against Kakamega Homeboyz FC. The 21 times league winners have had a bad patch by their standards and are currently eight points adrift (28 points) of the leading pack in third place albeit with a match in hand. K’Ogalo Coach Zedekiah Otieno is under immense pressure to deliver with fans not enjoying the misfortunes. As they prepare for the next encounter against Mathare United FC, the Sirkal faithful will want no excuses but three points so as to narrow the gap at the top and fight for the Championship.
At the newly refurbished Mbaraki Stadium, hosts Bandari returned to winning ways with Ken Odhiambo’s side defeating strugglers Nairobi City Stars FC 1-0.The lone goal came against the run of play in the 15th minute courtesy of lively attacker and national team trialist Beja Nyamawi. City Stars with the fancy offensive duo of Yuto Kusaba and Mohamed Bajaber could not crack the hosts’ tough backline with interim coach Abel Omuhaya shouting instructions to no avail with Simba wa Nairobi staying in trouble at 16th spot with 17 points and quickly sliding to relegation threat.
Bandari are now seventh on the log with 26 points after good recovery following no win in their past four matches. Next up for the coastal boys is a date with Sofapaka FC.
Shabana FC on their part won 1-0 Sofapaka FC to move to fifth place with 27 points. Tore Bobe are punching above their weight and nicely finding their way up the log with three wins in five games for Paul Okidi’s men. The Gusii based side who meet lowly Posta Rangers FC under their former tactician Sammy Omollo, however have only a goal difference of -2 in what is testament to a leaking defense.
