Police arrest three suspected poachers with ivory worth Sh1.5M in Samburu

Police have arrested three suspected poachers with 13 kilograms of ivory worth Sh 1.5 million in Maralal town Samburu County.
Samburu Central sub-county Police Commander Sylvester Rotich confirmed the incident saying that the three were arrested yesterday evening in Kirisia with four elephant tusks after officers from Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation got a tip-off from members of the public.
“Intelligence from KWS and DCI got information and the suspects were arrested at the centre of Maralal town, the suspects were planning to transport the ivory to an unknown market destination,” he said.
Rotich added that the four tusks indicated that the suspected poachers had allegedly killed two elephants.
The suspects are currently being detained at the Maralal Police Station awaiting to be arraigned in court today to answer the charges.
