Pharmaceutical technologists threaten to strike over unreleased job evaluation
The Kenya Union of Pharmaceutical Technologists (KUPT) has threatened to go on strike on Monday if the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) does not release the job evaluation report, secretary General Elias Mutuma has said.
Addressing a press conference in Nairobi today, the technologists said they would paralyze operations in all public hospitals by closing all drug stores and pharmacies.
Mutuma said the SRC is discriminating them by grading them as semi skilled while they have undergone the required training and acquired relevant skills in their profession.
He called on the SRC to withdraw the evaluation process that has downgraded them latest by noon Monday September 25 or else they will down their tools.
“We call upon the SRC to stop with immediate effect the discriminatory job evaluation in which they are downgrading us from professionals to semi/ non-skilled latest by Monday noon failure to which we will paralyze operations in all public hospitals and close all drug stores. If they feel we are not qualified they then should introduce modules in our training for us to be skilled,” Mutuma demanded.
The Pharmaceutical technicians also demanded among other things the harmonization of call allowances, risk allowances and non-practice allowance just like other healthcare workers like Doctors.
