Peter Kenneth picks former footballer as running mate
It is all systems go for Nairobi Governor aspirant Peter Kenneth after he picked Dr. Dan Shikanda his running mate for the August 8 poll.
Kenneth running as an Independent for the city’s top seat, today chose Shikanda his Deputy Governor while saying his credentials were “impeccable and perfect for the job.”
“I have settled on Shikanda as my second in command. Through consultations with him and lengthy deliberations with political confidantes, he seemed ideal and in line with my grievances for the people of Nairobi as I seek their mandate,” Kenneth said.
“Shikanda has served this country diligently especially his renowned heydays as a national team footballer. A man born to win, there is no better servant Nairobi residents can crave for than him,” he added.
Kenneth tore into the current crop of leaders in Nairobi accusing them for sleeping on the job. The former legislator alleged his most formidable opponents in the polls are riddled with a tainted past while adding “they are a choice between bad and ugly, not capable of moving the city out of its crippling state.”
“The city is experiencing incessant problems with service delivery at its lowest ebb in decades. Acute water shortage, uncollected garbage and traffic gridlocks are challenges bedeviling the city with no solution in sight” said Kenneth “if we ascend to the helm these problems will be a thing of the past as our track records are well known. The city is in dire need of ‘messiahs’ who can deliver for Nairobi residents hence we seek your support,” he added.
Shikanda echoed Kenneth’s sentiments saying they are a formidable duo with previous working ties and are ready to restore Nairobi to its heyday. “When I played for the national team at its pinnacle, we worked in synch with Kenneth as the federation’s president,” he said.
“We are the most viable option as the current crop of leaders in the city has been tried and tested, failing miserably while in office,” Shikanda added. The duo disclosed they shall hit the road as from next week mounting vigorous door to door campaigns to enlighten residents on their agenda.
