Peace caravans preach harmony in Laikipia, Isiolo counties

Laikipia peace caravan has adopted a new strategy in engaging young men in the fight against cattle rustling and illegal weapons in Laikipia and Isiolo counties.
The young men drawn from Maasai and Samburu communities will in the next three months be involved in preaching peace, harmony and coexistence.
Mark Lereruk, the chairman of the caravan and Godfrey Putunoi, his co-chair on Sunday presided over the commissioning of the 24 peace ambassadors at Bishop Mensa pastoral center in Isiolo town.
Lereruk noted that young men commonly referred to as morans are directly involved in cattle rustling and destabilizing peace in many areas and hence the need to engage them.
He noted that the Samburu youths have been used in these vices and therefore there is need to engage them directly.
The commissioner noted that each community produced a chairman who together with other morans and elders will be involved in the peace campaign.
