Parties in Azimio have till Thursday to nominate Raila’s running mate
The Azimio One Kenya Alliance has given affiliate parties till tomorrow to submit their choices for consideration as Raila Odinga’s running mate.
The council of distinguished people tasked with finding Odinga’s running mate met for the first time today with former Cabinet Minister Noah Wekesa serving as its chairperson.
However, Elizabeth Meyo will continue to serve as the committee’s secretary, while lawyer Paul Mwangi has been designated as the legal advisor.
“The committee shall only consider candidates who are members of the constituent party members of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance,” Wekesa said in a press briefing.
However, the committee has stated that it will only consider candidates from coalition partners.
Raila’s choice for running mate has caused a huge political discussion in Nairobi, with politicians such as Deputy President William Ruto claiming that Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s reputation is too high for him to face a panel because he served as Vice-President under the late Mwai Kibaki.
