IPOA launch probe against police over woman at Naroousura Police Station in Narok
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into the incident where a lady was allegedly assaulted by police inside the station in Narok.
In a statement to the Press, IPOA Chairperson Isaak Hassan said their rapid response team was dispatched to Narok following the alarm raised on social media, and the victim is receiving treatment at the Narok Level 5 Hospital.
“Following widely circulated images on social media depicting injuries sustained by a woman, allegedly inflicted by a police officer, IPOA reached out to the affected family yesterday, Monday, 21 April 2025. An independent investigation into the matter has been launched, and preliminary findings by our Rapid Response team indicate that the victim is receiving treatment at Narok Level 5 Hospital,” The IPOA chairperson said in the statement.
Isaak stated that IPOA is committed to investigating with impartiality, delivering its mandate of holding the police accountable, and working towards attaining the provision of Article 244 of the Constitution.
“IPOA will make appropriate recommendations for any police officer who will be found culpable for any violation of the law. The Authority is independent, fair, and impartial in all its investigations,” he said.
The statement by IPOA comes after viral photos of a woman who had gone to seek help from the police at Naroousura police station in Narok, after a police officer in the station hit her with a blunt object.
The Officer who found her at the station continued with the assault in the presence of his colleagues.
She claimed that the officer may have colluded with her husband and his side chick to have her assaulted after she had gone to pick up a motorcycle they jointly bought with the husband.
The officer allegedly turned on her, assaulting her in public and leaving her humiliated and with injuries.
According to reports, it took the interventions of her neighbours to save her life, who then rushed her to the Naroousura Health Centre. The woman, who claims to have filed an assault case at the same police station, said that she still fears failing to get justice. She revealed that her case had been dismissed at the police station, and it only took the intervention of other senior administrative officials for her to get an OB number.
