A passenger collapsed and died at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after allegedly developing breathing problems while boarding a Mombasa bound KQ flight, registration number, KQ612.
Through a statement, KQ said the deceased developed breathing difficulties while trying to board the plane.
“The passenger was pronounced dead by medical personnel at JKIA while the aircraft was still on the ground. The JKIA health and security agencies are currently handling the issue,” the airline said in the statement.
KQ has since sent a message of condolence to the family of the deceased.
“We convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,” the national carrier said.
The airline said it regrets the incident noting that its teams are probing the case.
This is the third incident of passenger’s death aboard KQ in less than two months.
On September 2, a passenger lost his life while onboard a flight KQ002 that was heading to New York City in the United States.
He also developed breathing complications prompting the flight be rerouted to Morocco for the passenger to seek medical attention, however, he was announced dead on arrival.
“Upon further medical examination, personnel confirmed that the passenger had passed away. The flight had departed Nairobi per schedule on Thursday, September 1 at 11.55 pm,” the airline said at the time.
Back on August 23, 2022, Kenya Airways also confirmed the death of a passenger on one of its flights that was heading to Nairobi from New York.
KQ was forced to issue a statement to win back the loyalty of their esteemed customers.
The national airline said the passenger fell ill mid-air, forcing the flight KQ003 to divert to Casablanca, Morocco for a medical emergency. The patient was however confirmed dead upon arrival.
