André Onana has returned to Manchester United following the completion of his season-long loan spell at Turkish side Trabzonspor, rejoining the squad ahead of preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
The Cameroon international was back with his teammates this week as Manchester United began planning for the new season, ending a year-long stint in Turkey that helped him regain regular first-team football after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Onana joined Trabzonspor on loan in September 2025 after losing his place in the Manchester United squad following the arrival of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens and increased competition for the No.1 shirt.
The move allowed the 30-year-old to secure consistent playing time and rebuild confidence after an inconsistent spell in England.
His return provides additional experience and depth in United’s goalkeeping department, although his long-term future at the club remains uncertain.
Reports in England indicate that the Red Devils are expected to hold discussions with the goalkeeper and his representatives in the coming weeks, with Trabzonspor among the clubs interested in extending his stay in Turkey.
Despite the uncertainty, Onana’s return has been welcomed within the squad, with his experience at both club and international level viewed as a valuable asset during pre-season preparations.
The former Inter Milan goalkeeper joined Manchester United in 2023 and made more than 100 appearances for the club before departing on loan.
During his time at Old Trafford, he helped the club win the FA Cup and featured regularly in domestic and European competitions.
For supporters, Onana’s return presents an intriguing storyline ahead of the new season.
While competition for places is expected to be fierce, many fans will be eager to see whether the experienced shot-stopper can revive his Manchester United career or secure a permanent move elsewhere.
