One Kenya Alliance (OKA) co-principals have maintained that they are still united and they will soon unveil their preferred candidate for the Presidency.
The alliance leaders Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Sen Gideon Moi (KANU), Senator Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and Hon. Cyrus Jirongo (UDP) said that claims of looming disintegration of OKA are far-fetched.
In a joint statement read by Jirongo at a Nairobi Hotel, the principals assured their supporters that they are still on course in their pursuit for the presidential bid in 2022 General Elections.
“That is a path we shall not deviate from at all costs,” the coalition leaders said.
The Oka principals will be going for a retreat to choose their flagbearer.
During the retreat, OKA will go through the recommendations presented by the joint technical committee constituted by alliance members.
“In this regard, the OKA Principals will retreat from the 18 February 2022 to consider recommendations from the technical team, which is currently working on a comprehensive report,” Jirongo said
Mudavadi and Wetangula also dismissed claims that Deputy President William Ruto is courting them in the hopes of forming a coalition agreement.
“I have been more in the media lately for what I have not said rather than what I have said. As far as I am concerned, I am free to meet anyone and if I meet that person I will not shy away from telling Kenyans. The freedom of association should not become a political ventilator for the people of Kenya. When I meet anybody, I will tell you but no formal invitation has come to me yet from Ruto. If it comes, I shall deal with it then,” Mudavadi said.
Mudavadi insisted that he was constitutionally free to converse with any politician but clarified that neither DP Ruto nor his camp have approached him contrary to what is being purported by the media.
On his part, Wetangula said that no contact had been made between himself and any rival presidential aspirants and that OKA was going to go the distance despite what critics might say.
“I have not received any formal or informal invitation from anybody in regards to my political activities. I am a member of OKA a coalition of the willing,” he said.
“I want to urge the media not to engage in shaping opinions that it is a two-horse race and that OKA is coming in to force a run off. There is nobody in their right frame of mind that will join a race to precipitate a situation. We have only joined the race to win and that is what it should be.”
Ruto is courting ANC and FORD Kenya for a possible political pact, while leaders at Bukhungu rally told the ANC boss to join Raila’s Azimio train.
While addressing the residents at Mumias on Friday, Ruto said Mudavadi was aware of his visit in the region.
According to United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, it had written to ANC and Ford-Kenya for coalition talks.
The UDA leader also attended Malala’s function in Mumias raising eyebrows among OKA leaders, especially Wiper party.
