Oimeke disappointed after ODM issues direct ticket to US-based Kenyan candidate

Bonchari Member of Parliament, Pavel Oimeke has called on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to be fair in the nomination process after a US-based Kenyan candidate was given a direct nomination ticket to vie for the Bonchari MP position.

The candidate Jonah Ondieki, who has been living in the US, was awarded the certificate with the ODM party sidelining the current MP and former Energy Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) boss.

Oimeke, who has barely been in office for a year after he captured the seat through a by-election following the death of former MP Oroo Oyoika, said that the ODM party had been turned into a political outfit that does not care for the needs of its members.

“It is a sad day for the people of Bonchari and the Gusii at large; today we have witnessed democracy on trial again as the ODM party denied me, the people’s choice, the ODM ticket to defend my seat,” said Oimeke.

He rallied his online supporters and urged them to reject leaders imposed on them by the party and instead go for leaders who have been tried and tested.

Oimeke has assured his supporters that he will give them direction on his next course of action.

Other beneficiaries of direct nomination in the ODM party include Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, and Janet Ongera.

They are vying for the gubernatorial, senatorial, and Women’s rep seats, respectively.
