Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has made it clear Friday is not a national holiday and only those who subscribe to Islam religion are allowed to be away from work.
Matiang’i said for non-Muslims, it will be a normal working day.
“This year the holiday will be celebrated on Friday September 1st 2017. Adherents of Islam religion will celebrate the day and therefore employers should allow them to be away from work. For non-Muslims, this is a normal working day,” Matinag’i said through a quick dispatch to newsrooms.
Idd-Ul-Adha is listed as a Muslim holiday and plans are underway for the government to present a Bill in Parliament to make it a national public holiday.
