Ngirici withdraw petition challenging Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru

Former Kirinyaga Women Representative Wangui Ngirici has filed an application in court to withdraw the petition challenging Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru’s victory at the August polls.

Through her attorney Brian Khaemba, Ngirici informed High Court Judge Richard Mwongo during a pretrial hearing that he had received instructions from her.

“I make the application through rule 21. I have received instructions from my client to withdraw the case,” stated Khaemba.

The former Kirinyaga gubernatorial candidate had filed a petition challenging Waiguru’s win stating that she had proof that her election as governor was marred with irregularities.

“After serious soul searching and wide consultation with my supporters and UDA and Kenya Kwanza leadership, I have decided to take a bold step. One that does not serve to advantage me or disorganize and disenfranchise the governor but one that serves the full advantage to the people of Kirinyaga,” she stated.

“I have gone against strong tides of pressure to press on with the court battle, resolved to withdraw the petition challenging Governor Waiguru’s victory, not because we didn’t have facts nor pregnant grounds to see the petition to the end but to allow the people of Kirinyaga to enjoy uninterrupted services,” she explained.

Attorney Kamotho Waiganjo who is also Waiguru’s husband applauded the decision, saying it will allow the county administration more time and room to fulfill its commitments.

She was given seven days to formally withdraw the case.

Waiguru was sworn in as Kirinyaga governor after emerging first with 113,088 votes while Ngirici came second after garnering 105,667 votes.
