A team of new faces has taken over from the old guard political veterans in Taita Taveta County in the just concluded elections.
As the tallying of votes for the presidential election is underway, results for provisional and county seats are have given early indication on the possible newline up to take over the mantle.
Taita Taveta county gubernatorial seat had the one of highest contenders.
Out of the thirteen contenders, Andrew Mwadime alias Wakujaa is ahead with over 50 per cent votes. He was vying as an independent candidate.
However, the results for the gubernatorial seat are yet to be officially declared by the Returning Officer Eisha Oshan.
“We are confident of a win.” Mwadime said.
However, Mwadime has an early commanding lead and is poised to take over from the incumbent Granton Samboja.
Lawyer John Bwire Okano of Wiper Party is leading in the Taita Constituency provisional tally with 18,753 votes, while the longest serving legislator Naomi Shaban of the Jubilee Party is distant second with 7,796.
In Voi, the excitement was high as the area MP Khamisi Chome was leading after five failed attempts.
The incumbent MP Damson Mwashako of the Wiper Party has so far garnered 14,313 votes for the Wundanyi constituency defeating his perennial rival Simon Mwachia of the Jubilee Party.
In Mwatate, the battle is between the prominent businessman Peter Shake of Jubilee and Christopher Mwambingu of ODM.
Only five MCA’s have retained their seats the rest are elected fresh look. In Kaloleni ward, Voi Constituency, the new elected MCA is Azhar Din who was vying under jubilee seat and the rest new elected 14 MCA’s from the 20 wards in the county.
Taita Taveta incumbent Senator Jones Mwaruma has retained his seat and gannered.
The incumbent Woman Representative Lydia haika has been re-elected.
