Nakuru politicians urged not to use youths to heckle competitors

Nakuru County Women Representative Mary Mbugua has called on Nakuru politicians to avoid using youths to heckle their competitors during their campaign rallies.

Mbugua was addressing the press in Molo ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit to the county this week as the mass voter registration exercise comes to a close coming weekend.

While referring to ugly instances where heckling was reported during the recent visit by Deputy President Willam Ruto in Nakuru, Mbugua urged politicians to avoid using such backward strategies to portray an nonexistent impression that they have the largest following behind them.

“It is very wrong to encourage physical confrontation among the residents when their leaders or aspirants are addressing them. Those who rely on that method should change,” Mbugua said.

During the visit, Molo MP Jacob Macharia and Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua were forced to cut short their speeches as rowdy groups of people heckled them at various stopovers.

“It was an ugly scenario which does not represent mature politics. It is a show of selfishness and a total abuse of power and money for personal political gain,” the MP said.

Some of the aspirants were accused of publicly dishing out cash to residents in a bid to woe them into interrupting speeches of particular leaders with Governor Kinuthia Mbugua recently claiming he had received information from trusted insiders of his competitors’ camps.

She called on youths to avoid being used by politicians who offer them a few shillings to cause violence in public forums.

“Am advising youths as a parent that they should show a good picture when the President comes as we are a proud cosmopolitan county that is strongly rallying behind the Jubilee administration,” She said.
