Nairobi MCAs condemn attack on Kitusuru MCA, lay blame on Governor Sakaja

Members of the County Assembly of Nairobi have condemned the attack and injury of their colleague Kitisuru MCA Alvin Olando calling for the arrest and charge of those involved.
Led by Kileleshwa legislator Robert Alai, the MCAs accused goons allegedly associated to Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja of unleashing attacks against their colleague.
Alai said they’ll stand firm and will not cease criticising the governor when he is not working for Nairobians.
“MCAs were elected like all the other people. Whatever the governor is thinking he is scaring anybody… he will not succeed. If the police cannot arrest the boys who attacked our colleague we will go for them ourselves. The police are not above the law and they should quickly arrest the people involved in this,” Alai stated.
Kariobangi MCA Joel Munuve stated the violence by the executive started last year when goons attacked him during the opening of Mama Margret Uhuru hospital located in his ward.
“When I was talking about Kariobangi North residents not being consulted during the handover of Mama Margret Uhuru hospital to the County, Sakaja sent goons to attack me. We have seen the same happen to our colleague yesterday because he spoke of what he was supposed to. This is very wrong and bad,” Munuve said.
“Our work is to oversight and when we are doing it correctly, the governor thinks we hate or dislike him but we are just doing our work,” He added.
Munuve called for the resignation of all leaders who feel they should not be oversighted because the offices they hold are for service to the public.
“All leaders starting at the National government trickling down should accept to be oversighted. If you do not want to be oversighted then you should resign,” Munuve concluded.
On his part, Kangemi MCA Hamisi Maleya stated that Nairobi legislators shall not relent or fear oversighting leaders, adding that they will do what they were elected to do.
“Investigations should be done and those who feel that when they are oversighted it is wrong to be taken to court and charged for hurting our friend Palapala. A MCAs we shall not relent to condone leaders who abduct, send goons to attack our honorable members,” Hamisi said.
Giving his narration, Kitusuru MCA said his attack follows his stern measures over developers being asked to give money for their building approvals to be done.
He accused Governor Sakaja of being behind his attack condemning him for his actions.
“All this was planned by the governor because of my stand. Among the several things that have led to this is developers suffering in this county as they are always being asked to give money for the approvals to be done,” Olando said.
“Let me now make it clear that I will remain firm and advocate for all developers who will be asked to give money to come to me as long as they have followed the due procedures. We have to put an end to developers giving chunks of cash for their approvals to be done,” he added.
A police report seen by the Informer Media Group Indicates that the MCA was attacked near the former Seamers Club by a group of around seven young men.
The legislator who was injured on the head, hand, and mouth was taken to Agha Khan Hospital where he was treated and discharged.
Governor Sakaja had not picked up our calls nor answered our messages by the time of publishing this story.
Attacks on MCAs have been recently experienced in the country with a Kakamega MCA being stabbed to death by a member of the public during an altercation.
