Nairobi MCAs accept autopsy results on Munuve’s death
Led by Speaker Kennedy Ngondi, the MCAs made the remarks after a briefing on the autopsy results by the Assembly lawyer Duncan Okatch
Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have accepted the autopsy results on the death of their colleague, Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve, who passed away last Tuesday.
This comes after a post-mortem exercise was held at the Lee Funeral Home under the watch of seven pathologists led by the Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Odour.
Led by Speaker Kennedy Ngondi, the MCAs made the remarks after a briefing on the autopsy results by the Assembly lawyer Duncan Okatch.
They claimed the clinics where Munuve had sought medication before his demise might not have been keen enough to establish what was ailing him, as earlier stated by family lawyer, Danstan Omari.
“The exercise was quite comprehensive, such that it is the legal and medical balance. The process had a conclusive outcome, there is nothing else that any of the pathologists said they needed to dig further,” Okatch stated.
According to the findings by the pathologists, Munuve died due to two blood clots, one clot was found in his lungs (pulmonary embolism) and another in his left leg’s popliteal vein, both of which led to oxygen deprivation.
“The main findings were in the lungs. There is a blood vessel called the pulmonary artery where blood passes from the heart to the lungs to get oxygen. We saw a big blood clot there, which was tightly adherent to the blood vessel. This is what is called pulmonary embolism, which can cause sudden death,” Dr Oduor explained.
“We tried to find where the blood clot was coming from and, upon looking at the whole body, a blood vessel in the lower limb, also on the left, in the vein called the popliteal vein. It is very clear that the blood clot came from this vein, which progressively went to the area in the lung,” he added.
Munuve’s death sparked speculation and concern among fellow MCAs, some of whom have pledged to pursue inquiries Munuve had previously raised on the floor of the Assembly, particularly regarding key projects in the county.
Recently, he challenged the formation of a private firm to collect garbage in the capital, citing unfair deals, and had also questioned the school feeding program in the county.
