Munya threatens to withdraw his support for Uhuru’s reelection
Meru County Governor Peter Munya has threatened to withdraw his support from Jubilee Presidential flag bearer Uhuru Kenyatta claiming state machinery is being used to cause chaos in his vote-hunting meetings.
Munya made the angry remarks after two of his consecutive meetings at Mwicione and Gothongo in Imenti south and Central respectively turned chaotic.
He accused Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi and senior Jubilee leaders in government of allegedly using the provincial administrators to disrupt Party of National Unity (PNU) political rallies in Meru County.
“Enough is enough I am increasingly getting tired of being harassed and my supporters by state forces, if they continue this way we will think otherwise and re-think on our political stand because this is like joking and taking the Meru votes for granted,”Munya added.
He added if the trend continues there will be division and chaos in the region ahead of the August 8th polls calling on the IEBC and all relevant electoral and security authorities to take immediate intervention to restore peaceful campaigns in the area.
Police were forced to lobby teargas canisters at Githongo to disrupt the charged youths who were singing and chanting anti-Munya slogans in support of his opponent Kiraitu who is seeking to oust Munya in the Meru governor’s seat.
