Government will re-evaluate the country’s budget, President Ruto says

President William Ruto has expressed intention to have the budget revised owing to the country’s high national debt levels that is proving unbearable.

He expressed his concerns yesterday during the funeral service of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s brother, Jackson Reriani Gachagua in Mathira, Nyeri county.

“The budget that we currently have is forcing us to borrow about Sh900 billion. We must reduce that borrowing because we are placing huge debts for the citizens of Kenya and our future generations. The country has a debt of about Sh10 trillion,” he said.

He emphasised his directive to ministries to cut expenditure by Sh300 billion and do away with things that are not very important.

“We must harmonize so that we can deliver prosperity to every Kenyan and make sure that our country moves to the next level,” he said.

He said that the amended budget will instrument more resources to the agriculture sector to boost food production and lower the high cost of living.

Ruto also urged the legislature and the judiciary to execute every plan that sees the country move to the next level.

He also addressed the issue on fertilizer stating that his administration is implementing plans to further reduce the cost of fertilizer from Sh3,500 per 50kg to Sh2,500 to boost food production.
