Mount Kenya University staff and students joined by different partners and member of the community to spread the message of peace through peace awareness walks across different towns and cities to mark the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace 2022.
Members of the University Management Board through a clarion call delivered by the Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, Vice-Chancellor urged members of staff and the community to embrace just, peaceful and inclusive society as informed by the SDG No. 16.
“We thank the partners who joined us at all the campuses including the security agents, religious communities, education institutions, and all other partners who have given an input in one way or the other,” he said.
The event which was marked in Thika, Nairobi, Parklands, Mombasa, Meru, Nakuru and Eldoret was organized in preparation of the 2nd International Conference on Peace, Security for Social Enterprise which will be held on 18th to 20th May 2022, at Mwai Kibaki Convention Centre, MKU Thika.
The conference has attracted international delegates from Africa, Germany, Korea, UK, Japan and US.
During the walk the students chanted messages wooing fellow comrades and youth to be peaceful as Kenya has already entered the campaign season for the general elections which will be held in August 2022.
MKU and her partners joined the international community in this walk as a sport engagement to preach and publicize the Peace Agenda for national, regional and continental development and socio-economic growth.
