Moi University gets new Vice Chancellor as Isaac Kosgey is Suspended

Kiplagat Kotut is the new acting Vice Chancellor for Moi University after Isaac Kosgey was sent on compulsory leave.
This was announced by the Moi University Board Chairperson Noah Midamba who stated that Kotut will be deputized by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Khaemba Ongeti who will also be in an acting capacity.
“I have the honour to announce the new Acting Vice Chancellor of Moi University: Kiplagat Kotut. I also have the pleasure to announce the new Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Research, Extension, and Student Affairs: Khaemba Ongeti,” Midamba stated.
Midamba said he is committed to revamping the university which has been on the verge of collapsing adding that in the next one hundred days measures will be in place to address bedeviling the institution.
“We held a very fruitful meeting with the unions last week and agreed to get the University on its feet by co-creating solutions to address all the pressing issues. Our mission is very clear, and that is to turn around the University to its original glory as a world-class teaching, research, and innovation hub,” the board chairman said.
“Our focus, commitment, and passion to deliver on this mission is palpable. We have laid out clear milestones to be achieved in the coming weeks and months and we are looking forward to working with you to communicate the substantive outcomes of our efforts,” he added.
The second oldest in the country has recently had a management crisis with a loss of funds leading to frustration among its students and parents.
Apart from the former VC Isaac Kosgey who has was sent on a compulsory leave of eight months, as the Head of Finance and Legal Affairs were also suspended.
Midamba and the new team of board members were sworn in last week after the previous board was dismissed.
He will serve along with Mercy Nyambura Kanyara, Edward Sambili, and Anne Waceke as board members.
Last month, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said investigations are on and those found culpable will face the law.
“We are prepared to take necessary actions so that our universities are run transparently so that we have credible institutions offering proper academic qualifications. We are ready to make hard decisions to make sure there is hygiene in this sector,” CS Ogamba said then.
