Patients in public hospitals will continue to suffer due to the ongoing nationwide strike by nurses after the Ministry of Labour failed to broker a deal between the two warring parties.
The meeting, that was called by Labour Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie, today failed to take place after it was reported that the CS was away consulting the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
The Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) officials however expressed their rage accusing the government of not showing commitment in resolving the matter.
Knun acting secretary general Morris Opetu maintained that the strike will go on as long as it will take the government to sign and register the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
“As far as we are concerned, the solution lies with the government as we did our part in coming up with a CBA together with the Council of Governors,” he said at the Ministry headquarters located at the NSSF building.
The meeting was scheduled to take place at 11am in a bid to give a way out of the crisis after the CS met both the nurse’s union officials and the Council of Governors chief executive officer Jacqueline Mogeni on Wednesday evening.
