Matiang’i declares Monday limited holiday in Mombasa, Kakamega ahead of polls
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has declared Monday, a national holiday in Kakamega and Mombasa counties respectively ahead of the much anticipated polls.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is set to conduct gubernatorial elections on Monday.
“In accordance with the Constitution of Kenya (Articles 101 (1), 177 (1) (a) and 180 (1) and the Public Holidays Act (Sections 2(4) and 3), Monday, 29 August 2022 has been declared a public holiday in the listed electoral areas,” said Matiang’i in a statement issued on Friday.
Other areas include; Kitui Rural, Kacheliba, Pokot South, Rongai constituencies and Kwa Njenga Ward in Embakasi South, and Nyaki West Ward in Imenti North.
The Interior CS asked employers to release their employees who are registered voters in the listed electoral areas to enable them to vote.
