Matatu driver tells court how neighbour allegedly murdered his wife

A matatu driver has described before the High Court the events that transpired before his neighbour allegedly killed his wife.

While testifying before the Milimani High Court, Joseph Makau explained the happenings on the day his close neighbour Robert Kioko Muoki allegedly killed his wife two years ago.

He told Justice Alexander Muteti that it was around 8 pm when he arrived at his rented house at Maternity area in Kasarani within Nairobi county where he met a large crowd gathered in the plot where he resided.

He proceeded in to his house to inquire his wife what was happening,

“I asked my wife what was happening and she told me that it was Robert who had a fight with his wife and they had resolved their issues and gotten back into the house,” Makau told the court.

Makau recounted that early the following day how he heard a knock on his door and when he opened, he saw Muoki who looked worried, requested for help to take his wife to the hospital.

He accompanied him to his house where he met his wife, Faith Chepleting, lying on the bed with blood oozing from her mouth.

“I touched her hand and it was cold and I sensed she was not alive,” Makau said.

They proceeded to St Peters Hospital which was in their neighborhood where Muoki requested for a doctor to accompany him to the house to check on the condition of his wife.

Since the doctors were busy, he was advised to go back and bring her.

“Since I was sensing that his wife was not alive, I called my wife and told her to report the matter to the police before we get back,” he said.

Makau told the court that when they get back home, they met police officers who ordered Muoki to lead them into his house where they found the wife dead. He was arrested and charged with murdering his Chepleting on August 17, 2022.

He denied the charges and has been in prison custody as the hearing continues.

The hearing will resume on April 29.
