Marjan Hussein sworn in as IEBC CEO

Marjan Hussein Marjan has today been sworn in as the Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Marjan has holding the post of acting CEO since 2019 before the recruitment for a substantive CEO were floated, interviews conducted where he emerged the top.

He was sworn in a low-key event presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome held at the Supreme Court buildings.

Koome lauded the recent collaboration between the Judicial Committee and the IEBC on electoral reforms.

“I appreciate the ongoing collaboration between IEBC and the Judiciary Committee on Elections (JCE) in the area of electoral law reforms and the training of Judges and Judicial Officers on Election Dispute Resolution (EDR),” the CJ said.

On his part, Marjan assured Kenyans that the 09 August 2022 elections would be free and fair.

“We are in the middle of preparing for the elections, the commission is committing to conducting a free and fair election,” he said.

His swearing in comes just a week after his appointment beating four other candidates.  He succeeds his predecessor Ezra Chiloba who was forced out of office over alleged gross misconduct.

The IEBC has appointed three senior officials to prepare for the polls.

Ruth Kalundu was appointed as the Deputy Commission Secretary (DCS) – Operations, Michael Ouma as the Director of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) and Christine Otieno Owiye as the Director of Legal Services.
