Magoha condemn Kenyatta University VC amid the ongoing land saga

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha now says there is no reason anyone should deny the government any piece of land that belongs to the public.

Magoha condemned the Kenyatta University administration amid the ongoing row over a piece of land that the government has allowed for the construction of the World Health Organisation (WHO) African regional operations and logistics hub.

Speaking at Pumwani Boys High School in Nairobi, the CS said the KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Paul Wainaina had no reason to question the decision of the Cabinet to hive part of the institution’s land for development.

“The government may decide that this school, the site is good for a nuclear facility, once it passes through the cabinet, who do you think you are that you are going to say you are not going to follow,” he said.

“I do not want to pronounce myself more than that, all land belongs to the government and when they decide to use it for another purpose there is a manner in which it is taken,” he added.

He noted that the government is justified in claiming Kenyatta University land for various projects because all land belongs to the government.

It is said that the administration, led by Wainaina is in opposition to a decision by the government to allow WHO set up the hub on the grounds adjacent to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRH).

According to Wainaina, the idea to cede part of the land to WHO was not in the best interest of the university as no consultations were done.

Wainanina on Tuesday announced that he had been sacked and the university council replaced after they refused to hand over part of the institution’s land to the government.
