Magistrate association cautions politicians against interfering with court rulings
Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA) has cautioned leaders against politicizing verdicts made by courts as it may lead to anarchy KMJA Secretary General,Bryan Mandila Khaemba said constant attack by politicians to the judiciary will erode the public confidence.
He stated public lynching of the Judiciary and on the persons of Judges and Judicial Officers in Kenya has been trending since January, 2017.
“Politicians including state officers and their supporters now seem to pick up the practice with abandon; they attack judicial practice and processes, they make a mockery of decision independence of Judges and the rule of the Law,”a statement read in parts.
He added that when public confidence in the Judiciary is eroded, anarchy and instability may be the direct result.
Elsewhere, Africa Bar Association (ABA)maintained election must be held on August 8 to avert a constitutional crisis. “unless other factors barring the election come into play election mus be held in 28 days,”Gatundu maintained.
ABA secretary general Alex Gatundu said the threats by politicians against the judiciary and Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) are uncalled for.
