Lusaka, seven others summoned by IEBC over electoral misconduct

Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka is among the seven candidates summoned by the Independent  Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over alleged electoral misconduct.

Lusaka and the six others are required to appear before the IEBC’s Electoral Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee chaired by Wafula Chebukati tomorrow.

Others required to appear before the committee are Lusaka’s Ford Kenya  competitor in Bungoma Wycliffe Wangamati,  ODM’s Starehe candidate Steve Mbogo and his rival Thomas Makori Hamed Gatenge, Eric Onyanga and Netto Adohla of Rarieda parliamentary seat, and  Kibwezi Jubilee MP cum candidate Jessica Nduku Mbalu and Prof Philip Kaloki.

Also summoned are benson Ong’ong’a and Fredrick Onyango of Kayole South Ward in Embakasi Central constituency and Raphael Musyoki and Peris Ayuma of Mountain View Ward in Westlands.

Lusaka and Wangamati’s case arises from an incident last month in which  a  woman was killed by a stray bullet after a clash between Jubilee and NASA supporters in Bungoma town.

Supporters of  Lusaka and   Wangamati engaged in a stone throwing match as they escorted their leaders to address rallies after being cleared by IEBC.
The rival groups also vandalised property and vehicles before police came in and fired tear gas and live ammunition.

The woman, identified as Kadogo who sells groceries in the town, was shot in the chest by a plan clothes officer as she tried to scamper to safety.
Kadogo reportedly died minutes after arriving at Bungoma Referral Hospital.

The IEBC committee is chaired by Chebukati and comprises all the IEBC commissioners .
Issuing the summons after a day long meeting yesterday, the committee warned that all political parties and candidates are bound by the electoral code of conduct that they executed.
